A teacher at an Orthodox gymnasium in Dzerzhinsk was defrauded of 4.5 million rubles.
29 September 2025 10:47 Incidents: In Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region, a 59-year-old teacher at an Orthodox gymnasium lost 4.5 million rubles after falling victim to a phone scam.
According to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs press service, the woman sought help after unknown individuals posing as "security service employees" convinced her over several days — from September 20 to 23 — that her bank accounts were under threat.
The perpetrators used a well-practiced scheme: having frightened the victim with the possible loss of her savings, they advised her to transfer all the money to a "safe account." Following their instructions, the woman herself transferred 4.5 million rubles via an ATM to the account details dictated by the fraudsters.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Fraud on a particularly large scale." Police are carrying out operational measures aimed at identifying and locating the suspects.
Earlier it was reported that a resident of Nizhny Novgorod lost 6 million rubles after communicating with a scammer who presented himself as a trader.
