Nizhny Novgorod authorities are deciding the fate of Gynecological Hospital No. 29.

      Gynecological Hospital No. 29 in Nizhny Novgorod may become part of one of the large multidisciplinary hospitals. The final decision will be made after territorial planning is completed. This was reported by Deputy Governor Andrey Checherin during a session of the regional Legislative Assembly on September 25.

      The issue was raised by deputy Yuri Lebedev. The parliamentarian said he had received a letter from a city resident concerned about the possible closure or transfer of the facility on Tropinina Street into private hands. According to Lebedev, it is the only gynecological facility in the upper part of the city, serving about 200,000 women.

      Checherin explained that work is currently underway in the region to establish anchor hospitals. In particular, in the Volga capital projects "Health Quarter," "City of Health" and "Family Quarter" are being implemented on the basis of regional and city centers and hospitals.

      "It is currently being worked out in what form Hospital No. 29 will exist: whether it will be connected to a large multidisciplinary hospital or remain a single-specialty hospital. I want to say right away that gynecological care will not be curtailed. At the present stage the hospital is being preserved. When we finish territorial planning, we will see what the further provision of gynecological services will look like," the deputy governor explained.

      He also added that the regional authorities are currently working on the modernization of Hospital No. 12 in Sormovo.

      "This is the only hospital in the district, but its condition leaves much to be desired. We have already begun developing a modernization concept, and from next year we plan large-scale funding to turn it into a modern medical center," the deputy head of the region said.

      It was previously reported that the cost of creating the "City of Health" complex is estimated at 35.2 billion rubles.
