Dmitry Starostin and Stefan Sambu discussed prospects for the development of cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and the Republic of Senegal.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region Dmitry Starostin discussed prospects for the development of bilateral relations with a delegation from the Republic of Senegal led by the country’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Stefan Sambu. The delegation also included the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal Vladimir Dubinkin and representatives of the business community.
During the meeting the parties discussed prospects for joint projects in industry, agriculture, IT and education, as well as the development of tourist initiatives and the establishment of twinning links between cities.
"Senegal is a promising direction for expanding the international contacts of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The ambassador and business representatives outlined the republic’s specific needs in agriculture, engineering and high technologies. Our enterprises have already offered their developments, and we will strive to respond to these requests as quickly and effectively as possible. We also consider other areas promising: culture, education, tourism. Today students from Senegal are already studying at our universities, and we want there to be more such examples," noted Dmitry Starostin.
A separate emphasis was placed on educational initiatives. The Senegalese delegation visited NEYMARK University, where they considered opportunities for academic exchange and joint digital projects.
The visit program also included negotiations at the level of the regional government, meetings with business and familiarization with enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
In particular, an important part of the visit was a round table at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nizhny Novgorod Region. There, Senegalese representatives met with seven regional companies operating in the fields of agriculture and industry. Representatives of the ANO "Gorky Tech" and the region’s Export Support Center also participated in the discussion.
"During the meetings we were able to identify the key vectors of our cooperation and outline concrete steps for its development. I have been in Nizhny Novgorod since yesterday and initially got to know the city from a historical perspective: I visited the Kremlin and learned more about its history and culture. Then meetings took place that allowed me to assess the economic potential of the region more deeply. I would especially like to note the visit to NEYMARK University. It is a true university of the future, opening broad opportunities for cooperation in digital technologies and education. I am very grateful to the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region for the invitation and the opportunity to find new partners and points of contact. I am confident our cooperation will develop and strengthen," emphasized the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal Stefan Sylven Sambu.
The delegation also visited industrial enterprises in the region, where they familiarized themselves with the technologies and capabilities of Nizhny Novgorod manufacturers.
"The trip was very eventful and useful. We met with large companies operating in both the Russian and African markets and discussed prospects for joint projects. The first steps have already been taken: fertilizer supplies to Senegal have begun, and in the future we plan to expand cooperation in engineering and agriculture. In addition, we see an interesting potential for imports from Senegal to Russia — fruits, nuts, cocoa. Such visits help to find real points of contact and to form long-term projects," said Honorary Consul of the Republic of Senegal Vladimir Dubinkin.
