A ceremonial opening of a new outdoor basketball court took place in the Meshcherskoye Ozero microdistrict in Nizhny Novgorod. The event was attended by the city’s head, Yuri Shalabaev, and the president of the Russian Basketball Federation and former NBA player, Andrei Kirilenko.
According to the mayor, the idea to renovate the court emerged about six months ago during a meeting with Andrei Kirilenko and well-known basketball player Sergey Monei. At that time, an agreement was reached to modernize the sports facility located in Meshchera.
Yuri Shalabaev noted that the project was carried out with the efforts of the charity fund "Kirilenko — For Children!", the city administration and representatives of the sports business. He emphasized that the result of the joint work was a modern and safe court, which has already hosted its first 3x3 competitions for the Meshchera Cup.
The court surface is made of high-quality, injury-safe materials, and the facility itself meets modern requirements for outdoor sports.
The mayor also reminded that in 2025 more than 25 sports facilities were created and renovated in Nizhny Novgorod. These include hockey rinks, football and basketball fields, mini-football courts, as well as workout zones.
