Former British MP and leader of the Labour Party George Galloway visited Nizhny Novgorod and shared his impressions on his social media page.
He highly praised the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral on the Strelka and supported President Vladimir Putin's initiatives to restore and renovate churches across the country.
Galloway said that "the USSR made a terrible mistake when it decided to wage war on religion," and noted that many large churches lay in ruins until government funding for their restoration appeared. As an example, he cited the restoration of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
The British politician also noted the cathedral's spiritual significance for Russians, emphasizing that it is now "a holy place that takes your breath away, and it is full of worshippers."
Recall that a program to restore unique wooden churches and bell towers has been launched in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
