Nizhny Novgorod became part of the largest environmental coastal cleanup action in Russia’s history. On the bank of the Oka River in the Leninsky District, local residents joined the anniversary event of En+’s environmental project “360,” which took place simultaneously at 30 locations in five regions of the country — Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Republic of Buryatia, Zabaykalsky Krai, Krasnoyarsk Krai and Irkutsk Region.
The initiator of the “360” project in 2011 was En+ founder Oleg Deripaska, who proposed a simple idea: every person can make the planet cleaner by spending 360 minutes of their personal time caring for the environment. Today, 15 years later, this idea unites thousands of people across the country.
Thus, thanks to the participation of more than 3,500 volunteers across Russia, including residents of Nizhny Novgorod, a national and world record was set for “The largest simultaneous cleanup of coastal areas in populated localities across different regions of Russia.” This achievement has been officially confirmed by experts from the International Book of Records INTERRECORD and entered into the Register of Records of Russia.
“The ‘360’ campaign to clean shorelines plays an important role in preserving the ecological balance of water bodies. This is not just garbage cleanup; it is each of our contributions to the preservation of water resources and the health of future generations,” noted Acting General Director of En+ Teplo Volga, Nizhny Novgorod branch, Mikhail Yefimov.
Participants in the campaign received necessary equipment and tools, and also took part in master classes: they conducted water analysis in the Oka River and drinking water together with an ecologist from the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation, recycled plastic caps and made various items from plastic waste together with the winners of En+’s “Cities with a Plus Sign” grant competition — activists from Diada, an agency for the development of children’s and youth project activities and implementation of initiatives.
The number of participants in the “360” campaign increases every year. This year, caring residents of Nizhny Novgorod joined En+ volunteers; many came with their children, setting an example of responsible attitudes to keeping the environment clean.
“The most important thing is the clean banks of our Oka. This was achieved through the joint efforts of Nizhny Novgorod residents, who demonstrated a genuine example of responsible and careful attitude to nature. It is pleasing that participation in such campaigns has become a good tradition for many of our residents, and the number of Nizhny Novgorod citizens actively participating in the improvement of their native Nizhny Novgorod grows year by year,” shared Deputy Head of the City, Head of the Leninsky District Administration Sergey Lukoyanov.
During the “360” campaign, on the Oka shore landscaped under the national priority project “Infrastructure for Life,” ecologists together with En+ volunteers and Nizhny Novgorod residents planted pine seedlings.
“The ‘360’ ecological alley has become a symbol of careful treatment of nature and an important contribution to the future of our region. The pines planted here will decorate the Oka’s bank, enriching the atmosphere with clean air and creating comfortable conditions for local nature,” emphasized Dmitry Arkhipov, Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Branch of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation.
A representative of the international agency confirmed the registration of the achievements in the category “Official Excellence.” This is the highest form of recognition in the system of international records, awarded to achievements that significantly exceed existing world standards.
“This day will go down in history as proof that ecology can unite thousands of people for a great cause. We are not just recording records — we are recording turning points. The En+ company’s record has become a new benchmark of environmental consciousness on a national scale,” said Vladislav Kopylov, head of the International Book of Records INTERRECORD and the Register of Records of Russia.
