Incidents: A resident of Sarov became a victim of internet scammers while trying to purchase a snowmobile through an online ad, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.
The 65-year-old man found a suitable offer online and contacted the seller via a messenger. After discussing the deal details, the buyer transferred 167,000 rubles as a prepayment to the specified account. However, immediately after receiving the money the seller stopped responding.
A criminal case has been opened on fraud under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Police officers are carrying out the necessary measures to establish the identity of the perpetrator and all the circumstances of the incident.
Law enforcement reminds: before transferring money, especially when paying the full amount in advance, you should carefully verify the seller’s information. Fraudulent accounts often look impersonal and use aggressive advertising slogans such as “lowest prices only with us” or “order within an hour.” In such cases, payment is usually possible only by non-cash means and 100% in advance.
Earlier it was reported that a 48-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod lifted a self-imposed ban on taking out credit in order to obtain a loan for fraudsters.
