On September 18, the ceremonial opening of the Rally of the World Festival of Youth took place in Nizhny Novgorod. The event brought together 2,000 people — young people from all regions of Russia and from 120 countries around the world — Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin and North America.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko read out a greeting to the guests and participants of the Rally from the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The head of state noted the success of the World Festival of Youth held in "Sirius" in 2024 and the need to continue international youth cooperation, for which all necessary conditions are being created in our country: "It is important that such a sought-after, fruitful dialogue continues. International friendship clubs created to implement your joint projects and initiatives, and to expand opportunities for professional dialogue among young men and women who have come to us from abroad, serve these goals. For the first time, 'Summer Schools' have begun to operate on the basis of year-round youth educational centers. And, of course, it is gratifying that large-scale festival events such as the current Rally will be held on the territory of our country annually. I wish you success, the fulfillment of your plans and all the best!"
Participants of the Rally included young leaders developing in one of seven areas: media; creative industries and the arts; public administration; entrepreneurship; sports; education and science; and digitalization and IT.
"You speak different languages, but you are united by one thing — a desire for friendship and improvement. We will succeed!" the Deputy Prime Minister told the participants.
He praised the venue of the World Festival of Youth Rally, greeted foreign bloggers taking part in the educational program from the Directorate of the World Festival of Youth and the New Media Workshop, and also saw the immersive show "Symphony of Time: feel, live, create," through which foreign participants are introduced to unique Russian culture and history.
In addition, Dmitry Chernyshenko discussed projects of the Rally participants aimed at developing international cooperation and scaling abroad. Among them: "Thematic summer schools by direction," "Thematic blog tours as an instrument for preserving historical memory and promoting an objective image of Russia abroad," "Restoration of monuments to Soviet soldiers in Europe as the preservation of historical memory," and "Families of Russia: welcoming friends."
The deputy prime minister particularly noted the project "Adaptation of foreign students studying in Russia" by Moroccan student Suan Ayub. This participant focused attention on the adaptation of foreign students, proposing to introduce a mentoring system, create a bank of best practices and implement educational programs to raise competencies for university staff. Dmitry Chernyshenko reminded that President of Russia Vladimir Putin set the goal of increasing the number of foreign students in Russian universities to 500,000 by 2030 as part of the federal project "Russia in the World" of the national project "Youth and Children."
Following the pitching session, the deputy prime minister supported the initiatives voiced, suggested refining them and discussing the results of their implementation at the International Youth Festival in Krasnoyarsk in 2026.
"By the order of President of Russia Vladimir Putin, we continue the legacy of the World Festival of Youth, which took place last year in Sirius. Next year in Krasnoyarsk we will hold an International Youth Festival for 10,000 people. By 2030 we plan to bring together about 40,000 participants — foreign citizens and Russians — at our international events. All this is being carried out within the federal project 'Russia in the World' of the national project 'Youth and Children,' which the head of state launched this year. We are doing everything so that young people can see the real Russia with their own eyes and understand that Russia is their friend, partner, a country where they can be themselves and receive support to implement their initiatives. Thus, after the Rally, 200 foreign participants will be sent to 10 cities where a regional program awaits them," said Grigory Gurov, head of Rosmolodezh.
Gleb Nikitin, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, noted that Nizhny Novgorod consistently and constantly gathers the most talented, ambitious and purposeful young people: "It is no coincidence that in 2023 our city became the first 'Youth Capital of Russia,' and now we are hosting guests from 120 countries. Our sunsets and natural monuments, architectural attractions and creative spaces, unique folk arts and crafts — we are ready to show the Rally guests '100% real Russia.' A large team is working so that young people can discuss global issues, exchange experiences in an atmosphere of creativity, find like-minded people and — most importantly — establish contacts with friends from other countries for joint projects. Therefore, the Rally should become another notable step in the development of the region's international activities. I have no doubt that thanks to Nizhny Novgorod hospitality, participants will feel at home here."
After the main events of the Rally in Nizhny Novgorod, 200 foreign participants will be sent to 10 regions of Russia where regional programs await them. In addition, 100 people will attend the "Intervision" contest in Moscow.
Reminder: by order of President of Russia Vladimir Putin to preserve and develop the legacy of the World Festival of Youth, festival events in Russia will be held annually. The next World Festival of Youth for 20,000 participants will take place in 2030. In 2026, an International Youth Festival for 10,000 participants will be held. In the years between them, thematic Rallies of the World Festival of Youth for 2,000 participants will be held annually.
The organizer of the Rally of the World Festival of Youth is the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the co-organizer is the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the operator is the Directorate of the World Festival of Youth. The event is implemented within the framework of the national project "Youth and Children."
