Specialists from Rosprirodnadzor recorded exceedances of permissible concentrations of harmful substances in the soil at a municipal solid waste landfill located in Nizhny Novgorod. The facility is operated by ORB Nizhny LLC.
The inspection was carried out jointly with experts from the Central Laboratory for Analytical and Technical Control (CLATI). Inspectors examined the landfill site and took soil samples for laboratory analysis.
The results showed exceedances of a number of pollutants in the soil. In particular, high levels of petroleum products, arsenic, phosphates and lead were detected.
The violations indicate that the operating organization is not taking sufficient measures to prevent soil contamination. This contradicts the provisions of the Land Code of the Russian Federation.
In connection with the findings, the legal entity and the responsible officials will be held administratively liable. In addition, Rosprirodnadzor has begun calculating the environmental damage caused.
Earlier it was reported that Rosprirodnadzor specialists had completed an inspection of a large dump in the Pervomaisky district.
