      A resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region was sentenced to 9 years in a penal colony for collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence services and attempting to commit sabotage. The regional court's sentence has come into legal force, the press service of the regional FSB directorate reported.

      As the investigation found, the man was recruited by representatives of foreign intelligence services. At their direction he collected money from Russian citizens and then transferred the collected sums to bank accounts specified by his handlers. These funds were used to support the Ukrainian army.

      In addition, on the orders of his handlers he planned to damage communications facilities.

      He was charged under articles covering treason and attempted sabotage.

      The man from Nizhny Novgorod will spend the next nine years in a general-regime penal colony.
