Interest in the works of Leo Tolstoy in the Nizhny Novgorod region grew by 16% compared with last year. These data were presented by the book service "Stroki" from the digital ecosystem of MTS in honor of the birthday of the great Russian writer.
The most active readers are aged 35 to 44; however, a love of the classics is observed across all age groups.
The absolute leader by number of readings was "Anna Karenina". It is most often chosen by readers aged 18 to 54.
Second place was taken by the epic "War and Peace". It is popular both among men aged 55–64 and among 18-year-old males. Their female peers more often prefer "Anna Karenina", while older women favor the novella "Childhood". "War and Peace" also maintains its lead among the audience over 65.
In third place in the ranking is the novel "Resurrection". It is of particular interest to readers over 35.
As Andrey Belov, director of MTS in the Nizhny Novgorod region, noted, interest in the classics is not just a fashion trend; people continue to seek in the works of great authors answers to important life questions.
"In our time, when everything is available online, electronic libraries have become a convenient way to engage with the masterpieces of Russian literature. Surprisingly, even in the digital age, readers increasingly turn to books written decades ago. Modern formats bring the classics closer, and the works of Tolstoy and other great writers remain relevant because they raise eternal themes — love, justice, the search for the meaning of life," he said.
