      Checks have been launched in the Kstovo district of the Nizhny Novgorod region after a tugboat collided with an inflatable boat, resulting in a person going missing.

      According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on September 6 at the 950th kilometer of the Volga River navigation channel. The tugboat "Kavkaz", which was towing barges, ran into an inflatable boat without a motor. At the moment of the collision there was an angler in the boat who fell overboard and disappeared. Searches for the missing person are ongoing.

      The Nizhny Novgorod transport prosecutor's office sent an assistant prosecutor to the scene, the press service of the Privolzhsky Transport Prosecutor's Office reported. The agency is conducting a check into compliance with navigation safety legislation. If violations are found, prosecutorial response measures will be taken.

      At the same time, the Central Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened an inquiry under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Violation of the rules of safety of navigation and operation of inland water transport by a person operating a small vessel."

      Investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. A procedural decision will be made following the results of the investigation.
