      We Are Against Terrorism: A Talk at the Arzamas Polytechnic Institute

      More than two decades have passed since the tragic seizure of School No. 1 in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia, which became one of the most horrific manifestations of international terrorism. This brutal terrorist act, carried out in September 2004, claimed the lives of 334 people, including 186 children. In memory of the victims, Russian society established an annual date — September 3 — declared the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism.

      In this context, Irina Vladimirovna Filipchuk, a Candidate of Historical Sciences and associate professor at the Arzamas Polytechnic Institute of NGTU named after R.E. Alekseev, held a talk with students dedicated to the problems of countering the ideology of terrorism and extremism among youth. The main aim of the meeting was to emphasize the importance of preserving historical memory and fostering intolerance toward violence in any form.

      Irina Vladimirovna stressed that terrorism is one of the most dangerous phenomena of our time. It cannot be explained rationally, because any ideology of violence contradicts the basic values of human existence. Terrorism robs humanity of its most precious right — the right to life and security.

      Particular attention in the talk was paid to the need for united actions by all segments of society to prevent new crimes of a similar scale. It is through dialogue, mutual understanding and joint efforts that the spread of extremist ideas among young people can be prevented.

      Events like the talk at the Arzamas Polytech are important because they help form strong anti-terrorist convictions in the younger generation. Students learn to recognize risks, spot signs of propaganda campaigns, develop critical thinking and increase their vigilance. Thus, the Day of Solidarity not only honors the memory of the deceased, but also serves as an important guide in building a peaceful future.
