"The 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region' program provides indispensable knowledge and invaluable experience. In my student years I treated studying more frivolously, but now I try to absorb everything the instructors tell us, understanding how important it is," said SVO veteran and program participant Vladimir Petruhov.

The hero is confident that the training will help him gain new knowledge and develop managerial competencies. Vladimir has 25 years of experience in the housing and communal services sector. The man admits that management, in his view, is a very difficult activity.

"I compare management to raising children. I thought I knew how to raise children until my own child was born. Now I grow alongside my little daughter — grade by grade. And thanks to the program I want to become a more educated person who can lead people," he says.

Vladimir Petruhov currently works at the coordination center for supporting servicemen, mobilized individuals and their families at the ANO "House of People's Unity." After completing the program he would like to continue working on issues of socialization and adaptation of SVO participants — possibly in a new position.

"The program is a real chance for participants of the special military operation. It's pleasant to gain knowledge as part of a team of like-minded people, to exchange experience. After returning from the front my worldview completely changed: if before the SVO I expected some gifts from life, now I understand that I already have the main gift — life. You need to value every day and try to live it usefully," Vladimir Petruhov shared.

Recall that the 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region' program is aimed at integrating and employing participants and veterans of the special military operation within the system of public administration. In March 2025 an agreement was signed between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, RANEPA and KUPNO on cooperation in implementing this program.

Registration for participation in the 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region' program closed on March 31. During the selection campaign 1,613 applications were received from Nizhny Novgorod residents.

Based on the total scores from questionnaires, testing, online interviews and assessment, as well as on the results of in-person interviews with the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Gneushev, 60 participants were selected for the main educational program and 30 people were chosen to be included in the next cohort upon returning to the region.

The official opening of training for the 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region' program took place on August 4, 2025, with Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin attending the ceremony. Sixty people selected for the educational program began their training.
