In Nizhny Novgorod, police detained a man who attacked a woman with a screwdriver in the Avtozavodsky district. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
It was established that the assailant wanted to take the woman’s backpack. He attacked her from behind, threatening her with a screwdriver. The victim began to scream, which attracted the attention of passersby. The attacker fled after wounding the woman’s abdomen and arm.
Police officers detained the man shortly after the crime, not far from the scene. He turned out to be a 26-year-old local resident with prior convictions. A criminal case has been opened against him. He now faces up to 10 years in prison. The assailant is currently being held in a pre-trial detention center.
