Two general education schools in Arzamas opened their doors to students and teachers after major renovations. By September 1, A.P. Gaidar Secondary School No. 7 and Secondary School No. 10 were completely renovated.

As reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the work was carried out under the school education modernization program. This made it possible to create more comfortable learning conditions for more than 1,500 students.

More than 212 million rubles were allocated for the major renovations of the two institutions. At each school the foundation, façade and roof were renovated, utility systems, windows and doors were replaced, and interior finishing was completed.

At School No. 7, which enrolls more than 700 children, special attention was paid to the design of the space. According to principal Olga Obukhova, the stairwells were decorated with quotes from Arkady Petrovich Gaidar, and the students welcomed the changes with enthusiasm.

The gym and the natural science classrooms — physics, chemistry and biology — were also renovated. They are equipped with modern demonstration equipment.

In addition, the school now has a Center for Children's Initiatives. One of the former storage rooms was converted into a conference hall where students and teachers can take part in online seminars and engage in extracurricular activities. Another innovation is the opening of a Resource Center for studying traffic rules, which will be available to children of all ages.

At Secondary School No. 10, which this year enrolls more than 800 students, classrooms, halls and the gym were also updated. Special attention was paid to modernizing the kitchen: new cooking equipment, a dishwasher and dining-room furniture were purchased.

As the school principal Irina Shalanova said, their students annually show high results in Yunarmiya (Young Army) competitions. This year they received a special gift — the classroom for the subject "Fundamentals of Safety and Defense of the Motherland" was repainted in red and white colors symbolizing the Yunarmiya movement.

The Ministry of Education reminded that upgrading school infrastructure is a key focus of the new national project "Youth and Children." Minister Mikhail Puchkov noted that by September 1 the region had opened 11 renovated schools, and by the end of the year capital repairs are planned to be completed in nine more institutions.

Earlier it was reported that a new multipurpose educational center, "Sozvezdie – Suzorye," for 1,500 places began operating in Arzamas. The project was implemented jointly with the Republic of Belarus under a bilateral cooperation agreement. The opening ceremony was attended by the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, and the Belarusian ambassador to Russia, Alexander Rogozhnik.

The national project "Youth and Children" has been implemented since 2025 at the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It includes nine federal programs, among them "All the Best for Children," "Teachers and Mentors," "Professionalitet" and others.
