Society At the House of National Unity in Nizhny Novgorod, an introductory event was held for participants of the educational program "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region." The meeting with veterans of the special military operation was led by the head of the ANO "House of National Unity," Roman Koshelev.
At the seminar, participants were introduced to the activities of the public organization, with particular attention paid to the coordination center for the support of servicemen, mobilized personnel and their families. It was established in October 2022 by the governor’s decision and plays a key role in interagency cooperation aimed at assisting participants of the special military operation, veterans and their relatives.
As Roman Koshelev reported, the center provides support in several areas. In particular, a call center operates hotlines that receive appeals from servicemen and their families for prompt assistance. Another important direction is the collection and delivery of humanitarian aid to military units where Nizhny Novgorod residents serve. In addition, the House of National Unity implements a number of patriotic projects, including youth meetings with participants of the special military operation, as well as various events for military families.
"Our guys returning from the SMO zone have gained a difficult but invaluable experience. They are brave, decisive people who know how to take responsibility and work in a team. Such qualities are important in any field. I want to emphasize that the program not only develops participants’ competencies, but also gives us the opportunity to learn their opinions and obtain unique assessments based on their experience and knowledge. For example, one of the participants of the 'Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region' program worked in an administrative position before serving in the SMO; after being wounded he began working with us in the coordination center, helping those fighting on the front lines. I am proud to be a mentor in this program. I am confident that our defenders of the Fatherland will be able to achieve success in civilian life as well," Roman Koshelev said.
The chief specialist of the department for interaction with military units of the coordination center for the support of servicemen, mobilized personnel and their families at ANO "House of National Unity," and a participant in the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program, Vladimir Petrukhov, said that the work helps him feel useful and provide assistance to SMO fighters.
"I have a real opportunity to interact with military units and do everything in my power to help the guys who stayed 'behind the line,' my comrades-in-arms. I believe that fate led me to the coordination center. I could not see myself doing anything else, and as long as I have the opportunity to help, I will help," he shared.
At the meeting in the House of National Unity, Roman Golubin, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia and dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at N.I. Lobachevsky Nizhny Novgorod State University (NNGU), gave a lecture to program participants. The topic of his speech was "Interethnic and Interconfessional Relations in the Nizhny Novgorod Region: Context, Dynamics and Regulation."
First Vice-Rector of KUPNO Albina Akhmetova reported that the first module of the educational program "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" has now been completed.
"It was devoted to state and municipal governance. Participants studied the structure of public authorities, powers and areas of responsibility, and the specifics of interaction between authorities at different levels. They examined the value orientations of Russian civilization, practiced public speaking, and developed managerial competencies. Now the time has come for the first block of internships. It began with an introduction to the activities of the House of National Unity; the next internship will take place in the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. And very soon there will be a Mentor Day, where program participants will meet their mentors, with whom they will work hand in hand for a whole year, developing their professional and cross-professional competencies," Albina Akhmetova said.
Recall that the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program is aimed at integrating and employing participants and veterans of the special military operation into the public administration system. In March 2025, an agreement was signed between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) and KUPNO on cooperation in implementing this program.
Registration for participation in the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program closed on March 31. During the selection campaign, 1,613 applications were received from Nizhny Novgorod residents. Based on the total scores from questionnaires, testing, online interviews and assessment, as well as the results of in-person interviews with the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Gneushev, 60 participants were selected for the main educational program and 30 people were chosen for inclusion in the next cohort upon their return to the region.
The official opening of the training for the "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program took place on August 4, 2025; the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, participated in the ceremony. Sixty people selected for the educational program began their studies.
