The former head of the Council of Deputies in Bogorodsk received a suspended sentence for land fraud.

      Incidents — On August 27 the Bogorodsky City Court handed down a verdict in the fraud case involving land plots against former chairman of the District Council of Deputies Garik Kalendzhyan, the court's website reports.

      It was established that in 2017–2018 lease agreements were concluded between the Committee for the Management of Municipal Property of the Bogorodsky District Administration and the founder of Priokskoe LLC for four agricultural land plots with a total area of more than 8 million sq. meters. The lease term was 49 years.

      After that the defendant formed an intent to acquire the plots into ownership at a price below their cadastral value. Kalendzhyan prepared, on behalf of Priokskoe LLC, applications to buy out the land at a price equal to 10% of the cadastral value without auctions and ensured the conclusion of the corresponding agreements.

      He then registered the transfer of ownership with Rosreestr, misleading the agency's employees about the legal basis of the transaction. As a result, Kalendzhyan's actions caused damage to the Bogorodsky district: for three plots the damage amounted to 864,237 rubles (large amount), and for one plot — 2.86 million rubles, which is classified as an especially large amount.

      The defendant fully admitted his guilt, expressed remorse and reimbursed the damage even before the start of the trial. The court also took into account that he has chronic illnesses, his participation in charitable activities and the sending of humanitarian aid to the special military operation.

      Kalendzhyan was found guilty of fraud. The court sentenced him to four years' suspended imprisonment with a fine of 100,000 rubles and a probation period of 1 year and 6 months under Article 73 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

      Until the verdict comes into legal force, the former chairman of the Council of Deputies remains under a written undertaking not to leave and to observe proper behavior.

      It is recalled that in the Nizhny Novgorod region a case has been opened into the embezzlement of 250 million rubles related to a defense contract.
