      The results of the contest "Best Elder of a Rural Locality of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" have been announced. The most active elders were presented with awards by the Executive Director of the Council of Municipal Formations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Filipenko, and a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Vladimir Pakov.

      "Elders are the true leaders of their territories, who every day make a significant contribution to the development of villages and hamlets. We strive to create a full ecosystem of support for the institution of rural elders. Thanks to the decision of the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, this year we increased the number of supported initiative projects tenfold — from 3 to 30," said the Chairman of the Council of Municipal Formations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, mayor of Arzamas, Alexander Shchelokov.

      The best elders received cash prizes as well as certificates to implement their projects.

      The winner of the contest, the elder of the village of Okhotino in the Bogorodsk municipal district, Vasily Otleykin, emphasized that rural elders perform the crucial task of reviving villages, and that the Council of Municipal Formations assists in this challenging work.

      The initiative projects of rural elders supported under the contest are aimed at improving municipal areas, repairing wells, installing sports and children's playgrounds, and organizing leisure events. All projects will be implemented by the Council of Municipal Formations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and by the end of the year the facilities will be transferred to local administrations for further maintenance.

      Also, within the framework of the "Trust and Help" project, implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, a seminar was organized for the contest winners on participation in the governor's participatory budgeting project "You Decide!". Deputy Minister of Internal Regional and Municipal Policy Nikolai Kostyukovich spoke about the implementation of the project in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, recent changes to the contest procedures, and answered the village elders' questions.
