      On August 31 at 11:00 a prayer service (0+) for the start of the new academic year will be held at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Nizhny Novgorod. The service will be led by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. Before the prayer service, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod metropolis will celebrate the Divine Liturgy, the diocese’s press service reported.

      Pupils, students, teachers and lecturers are invited to take part to pray together before the start of the school year.

      On the same day, prayer services for the start of the new academic year will also be held in other churches in Nizhny Novgorod.

      Currently, nine Orthodox gymnasiums, one monastic Orthodox general education school in Diveyevo and six Orthodox kindergartens operate within the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese.

      On the first day of the new school year, 4,491 students will take their seats at the desks of the diocese’s Orthodox gymnasiums, including 434 first-graders. 790 children will attend the Orthodox kindergartens.

      Earlier it was reported that active road repairs to schools and kindergartens are continuing in Nizhny Novgorod.
