On August 28 a commemorative plaque was ceremonially unveiled on the façade of the Kstovo Central District Hospital in honor of Major of the Medical Service and participant of the Great Patriotic War Nina Pavlovna Fadeeva. The event was timed to the professional holiday — Military Medical Day.

The initiative to immortalize the memory of the outstanding native was put forward by the administration of the Kstovo Municipal District, the district military commissariat, the veteran’s relatives and residents of Kstovo.

The solemn unveiling ceremony was attended by the head of Kstovo District Ivan Ulanov, the Consul General of the Republic of Belarus in Nizhny Novgorod Oleg Shvets, Deputy Minister of Health of the region Tatyana Kovalenko, Deputy Head of the Higher Military Command School of the Engineer Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Guards Colonel Andrey Vasyutenko, Acting Chief Physician of the Kstovo Central District Hospital Anastasia Knyazeva, representatives of the local council, Nina Pavlovna Fadeeva’s grandson, as well as representatives of the medical and patient communities of the Kstovo district.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, Nina Pavlovna Fadeeva began her work at the Kstovo Central District Hospital immediately after graduating from the Gorky Medical Institute, in 1938. She was instrumental in organizing the city’s pediatric and gynecological services.

At the start of the Great Patriotic War Fadeeva was sent to the front as part of a field hospital, where she headed the therapeutic department and performed surgeries. In 1943 in Smolensk she suffered a severe concussion but remained on duty, continuing to fulfill her professional and civic duty. For her displayed heroism she was awarded the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class.

After the end of the war Nina Pavlovna returned to the Kstovo Central District Hospital, where she worked as a therapist and later headed the physiotherapy department of the city polyclinic. Even in retirement the veteran was actively involved in the military-patriotic education of youth.

“The memory of the medical workers of the Great Patriotic War is important for future generations. They saved thousands of lives, showing heroism and selflessness. Their experience and knowledge are necessary for the development of modern medicine, for fostering patriotism and respect for the history of our Motherland. The memory of Nina Pavlovna Fadeeva will inspire many more generations of Kstovo doctors and serve as an example of fidelity to duty,” said Tatyana Kovalenko.

Anastasia Knyazeva noted that the installation of the memorial plaque on Military Medical Day, in the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the Year marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, is symbolic.

“The example of Nina Pavlovna’s courage and selfless work will forever remain in our hearts. Her memory lives not only within the walls of our hospital; her name is forever written into the annals of the Nizhny Novgorod region,” emphasized Anastasia Knyazeva.
