The Nizhny Novgorod regional organization of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers expressed disagreement with an initiative by the Russian Ministry of Health according to which all state-funded places in medical universities and colleges could be converted to targeted enrollment.
According to the union, such measures limit future doctors' right to freely choose their place of work. Instead of incentivizing young specialists, they create negative conditions that could only increase the outflow of personnel.
Representatives of the organization emphasize that the shortage of medical workers should be addressed by improving the quality of working conditions and developing infrastructure, especially in rural healthcare facilities.
Earlier, the Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Mikhail Puchkov, spoke about the changes that await the education system in the 2025/2026 academic year.
