Runs, workshops and bubble shows: residents of Nizhny Novgorod are invited to celebrate Knowledge Day in city parks, museums, libraries, art schools and leisure centers.
Entertainment programs timed to the start of the school year will take place in city parks, museums, libraries, art schools and leisure centers. This was reported by the Department of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod city administration.
The City Directorate of Parks and Squares said that celebratory events timed to the start of the school year will be held on September 1 in Dubki, Svetloyarsky and Avtozavodsky parks, and on August 30 and September 1 in the 1 May Park. Visitors can expect children’s animation, creative workshops, themed games and contests.
In the 1 May Park, on August 30 from 11:30 to 16:30 the “First-Grader Festival of Wonders” is planned to take place on the central square of the public space. Audiences will see performances by vocal and dance ensembles from the Kanavinsky District, children’s entertainment programs and creative workshops. The event is organized by the Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Kanavinsky District administration, the Nizhegorodsky charitable foundation and the City Directorate of Parks and Squares.
Day of Knowledge in the 1 May Park will also be celebrated on September 1. From 12:00 to 17:00 various activities, flash mobs and quizzes will be prepared for children, as well as workshops on making bookmarks and paper crafts. In addition, from 14:00 to 17:00 staff of the V.I. Lenin Central City Library will hold a board game about knowledge of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and sessions on making bookmarks and cards with themed images.
The program in Avtozavodsky Park starts at 12:00. On the main stage of the recreation area there will be a concert featuring vocal and dance groups, a nitrogen show, soap bubbles and interactive activities with the audience. Guests will be able to participate in contests, with prizes for the most active. On the “Katushki” site, from 15:00 to 17:00 a color festival is planned.
In Dubki and Svetloyarsky parks the Day of Knowledge will be organized from 12:00 to 16:00. The celebration program includes animated shows with bright characters, spectacular performances and interactive activities with props. In the public spaces visitors will also be able to make a “squish-paw” toy and take part in creative workshops. In Dubki there will be a location for shooting vertical videos, and in Svetloyarsky Park — a “Challenge Station” where visitors can compete in relays and quizzes.
The institution noted that the event schedule may change due to weather conditions. You can follow the up-to-date event calendar on the Directorate of Parks and Squares’ Telegram channel: https://t.me/parki52nn.
At the State Literary and Memorial Museum of N.A. Dobrolyubov (Lykovaya Damba Emb., 2A) on September 1 at 12:00 a literary celebration “From the Quill to the Laser Pointer” will be held, with a talk about the paths and methods of acquiring knowledge, including in the Russian language, within the framework of the project “And We Will Preserve You, Russian Speech!”, which won the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives competition. The program includes: a talk and interactive “Language Opens the Mind”; a session “The Living and the Dead Word in Russian Dictionaries”; a workshop and interactive “Reading Other People’s Letters” with a lesson in calligraphy and writing with a fountain pen; an exhibition on speech culture “Work on Mistakes”; and the exhibition “A Proverb Doesn’t Slip Out for Nothing.” Applications for museum visits by organized groups are accepted by phone: 433-99-10.
On the same day the K.M. Stanyukovich Library (Kosmicheskaya St., 49) will hold an educational quest “The Mystery of the School Satchel” at 13:00. “A ‘Two’ will address the children and say that she does not want them to do excellently — so she hid the ‘Five’. If the children want to find it, they must split into teams and complete active tasks; for each completed task each team will receive a piece of the school map. When the children glue the whole map together from the pieces, they will learn where to look for the ‘Five’,” the staff said.
The V.V. Bianchi Library (Hero of the Soviet Union Prygunov St., 9) will organize an entertainment program “Riddles of the School Satchel” at 14:00. Young readers will have to peer into a mysterious satchel full of enigmatic items and amazing stories, where the secrets of school life of past generations are hidden. Participants will solve riddles, take part in fun contests and games, and test their wit and resourcefulness. Children will meet characters from beloved books, compete in pen-and-ink writing, and try to become real detectives solving puzzles and brainteasers.
At the “Center for Family Reading” Library site (Plotnikova St., 2) an interactive event “Erudite: The Beginning of Adventures” will take place at 15:00. The book heroes of the celebration will invite children to the fascinating Land of Knowledge. They will find cheerful lessons, playful breaks, various tasks, quizzes and contests testing erudition and ingenuity.
At the M.M. Prishvin Library (Gleb Uspensky St., 17) from 10:00 to 18:00 there will be a Day of Entertaining Sciences “First-Class September.” On the site near the library participants will be treated to fun experiments and demonstrations, interactive reading, entertaining board games, and a photo session in the Laboratory of Entertaining Sciences.
At the V.A. Zhukovsky Children’s Library (Chernoprudsky Lane, 4) a festive salon “Hello, Road to Knowledge!” will be organized at 11:00. In honor of the holiday librarians will conduct a playful introductory tour for first graders, during which the children will get acquainted with the library and its collection and talk about the importance of books in everyday life and study.
Also on September 1 the centralized library systems of the Avtozavodsky and Nizhegorodsky districts will take part in the intellectual run “Running Book” — an annual large-scale campaign that unites tens of thousands of library community members and reading enthusiasts across Russia. “The mechanics of the event are simple: ‘book-runners’ follow a pre-planned route along streets, squares, alleys, squares and parks. They ask passersby questions to test their erudition. Each run is timed to a particular theme or event to which the questions are devoted. For a correct answer the respondent receives an interesting book, a small souvenir or simply an invitation to the library,” specialists said.
At 12:00 the run will start from the Central District Library “Library and Leisure Center” (Molodezhny Ave., 44B) and continue along the central streets of Avtozavod. The theme of the event will be “The Russian Atom: History, Physics, Chemistry, Geography.”
At 13:00 the run will start from the A.M. Gorky Children’s Library (Minin St., 38/2) and continue along the streets of the Nizhegorodsky district. The quiz questions will be dedicated to the Heroes of the Fatherland.
Day of Knowledge will also be celebrated at the Aram Khachaturian Children’s School of Arts (Komsomolskaya St., 10A). At 14:00 a festive concert will take place on the platform in front of the entrance.
At 12:00 in “Burevestnik” — a branch of the Nadezhda Community Leisure Center (Kominterna St., 244) — a celebration for primary school pupils of the Sormovsky district will take place. Children will enjoy an interactive game program about school and school subjects, a knowledge quiz, a group song performance, a flash mob, and a screening of a themed cartoon.
