Almost 100,000 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region have undergone a medical screening aimed at assessing reproductive health since the beginning of 2025. This was reported by Alexey Nikonov, editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Stacionar Press", in his Telegram channel, citing the region's territorial compulsory medical insurance (OMS) fund.
According to him, the examination results are alarming: a significant portion of young Nizhny Novgorod residents were found to have previously undiagnosed reproductive system diseases.
Among women aged 18 to 49, doctors recorded more than 2,000 cases of endometriosis, about 1,000 cases of cervical erosion, 1,729 cases of uterine fibroids and 223 cases of infertility. Benign breast dysplasia was also found in 232 patients.
Among men, the most common diagnoses were prostatitis (233 cases) and obesity (107). These conditions directly affect reproductive function.
In addition, specialists diagnosed 85 cases of varicocele — varicose dilation of the scrotal veins — and 16 men were found to be infertile.
Doctors urge Nizhny Novgorod residents to pay more attention to their reproductive health and remind them that a comprehensive examination can be done free of charge at district polyclinics.
Earlier, a doctor gave Nizhny Novgorod residents advice on how to start leading an active lifestyle.
