The Volgo-Vyatka branch of the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A. S. Pushkin (Arsenal) presents a series of lectures prepared for the "Dreams of Home" project. They are led by specialists from the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. The project was prepared as part of the special program of the International Biennale of Ecological Art. On September 2 at 7 p.m. the second lecture of the series, titled "The Image of Home in Art Today," will begin. It will be delivered by Irina Alexandrova, a research fellow in the Department of New Western Art at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. The lecture will present works by Russian and foreign contemporary artists who explore the theme of home in their work.
As the organizers note, contemporary art always responds to changing reality. That is why historical, social, and climatic changes often serve as stimuli that feed artists' creative activity. For example, the earthquake in Sicily, which wiped an entire town off the face of the earth, became a challenge for the artist Alberto Burri: he poured concrete over the town's ruins, preserving the layout and turning the space of Gibellina simultaneously into a ghost of the past and a monument to tragedy. On the other hand, some authors are fascinated by studying the influence of household objects on everyday life: for instance, Roman Sakin investigates the relationships between people and the spaces that surround them.
The next lecture, titled "Home in Contemporary Architecture," will take place on September 16 at 7 p.m. The last, fourth, lecture — "Home Outside and Inside. The Image of Home in 20th-Century Art" — will take place on September 30 at 7 p.m.
