A poacher who killed two moose was caught in a Nizhny Novgorod forest.

      In the Tonshaevsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region, a poaching case was solved thanks to the "Vystrel" sound-monitoring system. It detected gunshots in the forest, after which inspectors went to the scene and discovered illegally taken moose.

      According to the regional Ministry of Forestry, the signal was received on August 17 from the territory of publicly accessible hunting grounds in the area of the Vinogradovo tract.

      Arriving officers found a man who was hunting at an unauthorized time and without any permits. By law, moose hunting is strictly regulated: special documents are required, and the number of animals allowed to be taken is limited. The violator now faces a criminal case and a fine. The damage was estimated at over 600,000 rubles.

      A police investigative-operational team was called to the scene. During the inspection, a firearm and the meat of the killed male and female moose were seized from the man. A criminal case has been initiated against him on charges of illegal hunting.

      The Ministry of Forestry explained that the "Vystrel" system is capable of detecting the sounds of gunshots within a radius of up to 500 meters. It is used to monitor around the clock the forest areas where poaching most often occurs.

      In addition, special anti-poaching units operate in the region, which include a state hunting inspector, a police officer, a Rosgvardiya officer and a production hunting inspector.

      Since the beginning of the year, 719 violations of hunting regulations have been recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Of these, 19 bore signs of criminal offenses. Nineteen weapons have also been seized.

      Earlier it was reported that 152 hunters received permits to take moose, wild boar, roe deer and brown bear in the publicly accessible hunting grounds of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
