A drug trafficker with a large shipment was caught in the Lyskovsky District.

      Police officers of the Lyskovsky District detained a man suspected of attempting to distribute a large batch of drugs, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region reported.

      According to the investigation, at the end of July 2025 a 34-year-old resident of the region received, via a messenger app, the coordinates of a stash where a narcotic substance intended for further distribution among consumers was located. He retrieved it and packaged the drug into small zip-lock bags. He then arranged with a 32-year-old acquaintance to make a joint trip to place new stashes on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      However, on the 498th kilometer of the M7 "Volga" highway, the car carrying the suspects was stopped by police officers. During a personal search a transparent bag containing numerous bundles was discovered and seized from the 34-year-old man. During a search of the suspect's residence, police found similar bundles, packaging materials and scales. Information was also established about other stashes from which more than 90 bundles were seized.

      The investigative department of the OMVD of Russia "Lyskovsky" has instituted a criminal case on signs of the offense provided for in part 3 of Article 30 and paragraph "g" of part 4 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — attempted trafficking of narcotic drugs committed by a group of persons by prior agreement on a large scale.

      The penalties under this article provide for imprisonment for up to 20 years. The investigation is currently ongoing.

      Previously, it was reported that drugs and an arsenal were found in the apartment of a previously convicted resident of Nizhny Novgorod. It was also reported that a cat — a "drug courier" — was "detained" in a Nizhny Novgorod penal colony.
