The hockey club "Torpedo" announced the opening of a new children's branch of its school in the upper part of Nizhny Novgorod. Training sessions will take place at the Nagorny Sports Palace, the club said on its social media.
In the upcoming season, the groups will recruit children born in 2019 and 2020. An increase in the number of participants is planned later.
The chairman of the board of ANO "Torpedo", Maxim Gafurov, said that management had long been planning to open a branch of the school in the upper part of the city because demand for it was high. The new branch will be the first step in expanding the school.
"Torpedo is growing, and we are very pleased about it," he said.
Currently the club's children's school operates in the Avtozavodsky district on the ice of the Konovalenko Sports Palace, which is the home arena of the youth team "Chayka".
The Minister of Sport of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dmitry Kabaylo, called the opening of the branch a strategically important step in forming an effective ecosystem by training personnel for "Torpedo".
The first enrollment will begin in the near future.
It was previously reported that a center for the development of youth sports and the training of hockey players named after Skvortsov will be built in the Avtozavodsky district.
