The building located at 8 Studyonaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod has been decided to be transferred into the ownership of the Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was reported to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the regional Ministry of Property and Land Relations.
According to the ministry, the decision to transfer the property was made within the framework of Federal Law No. 327-FZ of 30 November 2010, which regulates the return to religious organizations of property intended for religious purposes that is in state or municipal ownership.
As the ministry reported, the initiative to transfer the building came from Archbishop Paolo Pezzi. In September 2024 he submitted the relevant appeal to the Government of Russia.
The final decision was recorded in the protocol of the Government Commission in July 2025. According to the document, the property on Studyonaya will be transferred into the ownership of the local religious organization — the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
It was previously reported that the church began to be built shortly before the revolutionary events, but with the establishment of Soviet power it was seized from the Catholic community and repurposed for secular institutions. Prior to the transfer to the parish, the building was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy.
