The economy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region grew by 1.6% in the first half of 2025.

      Economy. The gross regional product (GRP) of the Nizhny Novgorod Region increased by 1.6% in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period last year, the regional government reported.

      The main drivers of growth were manufacturing, information technology and the scientific sector.

      According to Deputy Governor of the region Yegor Polyakov, the physical volume index of GRP is estimated at 101.6%, which allows the region to maintain positive momentum. He emphasized that the region’s sustainable economic development is ensured by the active work of industrial enterprises, scientific organizations and IT companies.

      The largest contribution to growth came from manufacturing, which recorded an increase of 4.4%. The IT sector showed growth of 10.4%, and scientific activity — 8.9%.

      At the same time, the regional Ministry of Economic Development and Investments noted that the overall pace of economic growth has slowed somewhat. The main reason cited was a decline in consumer activity. Thus, while retail turnover was growing at around 6% at the beginning of the year, by the end of the first half the increase amounted to only 3.4% in comparable prices.

      The growth of the regional economy is in line with the goals of the new national project "Efficient and Competitive Economy," which has been implemented in Russia since 2025 at the direction of President Vladimir Putin. The project is aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, increasing labor productivity and attracting investment in fixed capital.

      Earlier it was reported that business loan debts in the Nizhny Novgorod Region reached 933.1 billion rubles as of July 1, 2025.
