This Saturday, 16 August, Nizhny Novgorod widely celebrated its 804th anniversary.
Recall that the concept of the celebration this time was "Heroes Among Us." Special attention, of course, was paid to the participants of the special military operation (SMO). Although the heroes that day were not only them.
"Heroism is not only feats on the battlefield, but also the work of doctors, teachers, volunteers, rescuers, builders, parents, and youth. It is all those who honestly do their job and contribute to the development of Nizhny," noted Mayor Yuri Shalabaev, commenting on the concept for City Day 2025.
The important day for city residents began with the Volga Regatta. The waters near the motorboat "Geroi" ("Hero") and the Chkalov Staircase became a focal point for spectators, participants, and everyone interested in sailing and active water recreation. The program included the traditional sail parade (the regatta's calling card) and a SUP parade that gathered more than 500 participants. There were also SUP competitions held in individual and team categories in honor of City Day.
During the day, interactive areas, photo zones, and the main stage opened on Minin and Pozharsky Square, where various creative groups performed until late in the evening. Judging by photos from the scene, it was crowded, noisy and fun, as well as informative and useful (quizzes and master classes were held).
By the end of the celebration, Minin Square was packed. This was because the headliners of City Day were our famous fellow countrymen, brothers Sergey and Vladimir Kristovsky — they performed with their band Uma2rman, playing their biggest hits and, of course, the song about their "beloved city," Nizhny Novgorod.
We would add that the cherry on the birthday cake was a fairy-tale-style light installation (0+). Mapping was shown on the walls of the Kremlin until two in the morning.
