The celebration of the Apple Feast (0+) will take place on August 19 in the quarter of the Church of the Three Holy Hierarchs in Nizhny Novgorod. The event is organized by "Zapovednye Kvartaly," ANO "ASIRIS," together with the Nizhny Novgorod deanery.
Guests can expect an immersion in the atmosphere of the late 19th — early 20th century: the blessing of apples brought by attendees, a conversation with dean Andrey Bandin about the meaning of the holiday, a tea party with a samovar and treats, as well as photo zones decorated in the style of the old town.
According to the organizers, the goal of the event is not only to tell about the traditions but also to give people the opportunity to feel the spirit of the time when the Apple Feast was an important part of life for Nizhny Novgorod residents.
"The Apple Feast is the popular name for the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, associated with the ancient Old Testament tradition of bringing the first fruits of the harvest to the temple. In Russia, grapes were replaced by apples, hence the popular name," said the event host, dean of the Nizhny Novgorod district, Father Andrey Bandin.
The celebration is free to attend, with prior registration on the quarters' website. It starts at 18:30 in the Garden of Dreamers at 17 Korolenko Street.
Earlier it was reported that in August the fifth festival "Chaliapin. The Birth of an Artist" (6+), devoted to the creative path of the great opera singer, will be held in "Zapovednye Kvartaly."
