More than 1.5 tonnes of aid were delivered to animal shelters in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

      The collection of food and medicines is taking place as part of the party project "Protection of Wildlife."

      Today, August 16, World Stray Animals Day is observed. For two weeks, participants in the campaign collected food and medicine for animals in shelters. In 2025 the campaign traditionally brought together dozens of caring people. Local party branches, public and social organizations, and residents of the region joined the collection.

      In Nizhny Novgorod, supporters of the United Russia party and volunteers from the Young Guard of United Russia handed over to the Sostradanie NN shelter a batch of aid weighing more than 900 kilograms. It included all the essentials: dry food, canned food, grains, medicines, care products, accessories and toys.

      "The Young Guards actively help stray animals: they collect food, visit shelters and care for the pets. Our activists regularly travel to Donbas to support the shelter in Mariupol. Caring for animals develops in young people a sense of responsibility and compassion, forming the foundations of morality and humanity," noted the leader of the regional branch of the Young Guard of United Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region, SVO veteran Roman Zykov.

      The Sostradanie NN shelter has been a partner of the regional party branch for many years. It currently houses more than 150 dogs and about 50 cats. Many animals come to the volunteers with illnesses and injuries. At the shelter the animals receive treatment, rehabilitation and quarantine. Some find new owners. The rest remain under the care of the shelter. Over the years of the Sostradanie NN fund's work, more than 4,500 animals have found homes.

      "The 'Best Friend' campaign is not just a collection of aid for shelters, but an expression of our shared responsibility for those we have domesticated. Every bag of food, every toy or medicine donated is a chance to give animals care and warmth, and for some of them—a new home. Such initiatives help bring people together around good deeds and remind us that love and attention are needed not only by people but also by our lesser brothers," said Vladimir Groysman, coordinator of the federal party project "Protection of Wildlife" in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      As part of the campaign, the "Empire of Cats" animal shelter received more than 100 kilograms of food. "Best Friend" covers the entire region. Regional shelters for stray animals were given more than 500 kilograms of aid.

      "Best Friend" annually draws attention to the problem of abandoned pets, helps shelters and gives animals a chance to find caring owners. The event is held with the assistance of the Center for Supporting Civic Initiatives of United Russia supporters within the framework of the party project "Protection of Wildlife."
