Nizhny Novgorod farmers will sow more than 230,000 hectares with winter crops.

      Sowing of winter crops has begun in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This year agricultural producers plan to sow more than 230,000 hectares, the regional Ministry of Agriculture reported.

      Eight municipal districts have already started work. As the head of the ministry, Nikolai Denisov, noted, about 4,000 hectares of winter rapeseed have already been sown. Sowing of winter wheat, rye, triticale, vetch and other crops will begin in the near future.

      Two main measures are in place in the region to support farmers: subsidies for carrying out agrotechnological work and compensation for the purchase of elite seeds. About 200 million rubles are allocated annually for these purposes.

      At the same time, the harvest campaign continues in the region. Almost 874,000 tonnes of grain have already been threshed — more than half of the planned volume. Harvesting has been carried out on 247,000 hectares, with an average yield of over 35 centners per hectare. By comparison, last year on the same date the yield was 28.8 centners.

      Harvesting of vegetables and potatoes has also begun. More than 7,400 tonnes of potatoes have been dug up — about 2% of the plan. Some 1,400 tonnes of vegetables have been harvested, which is 4% of the planned amount. Work is being carried out in 42 municipalities and, as the head of the ministry noted, is proceeding faster than last year.

      In addition, fodder production is in full swing in the region. As of August 12, the haylage plan has been exceeded by almost 12% — about 731,000 tonnes have been harvested. More than 90% of the hay plan has been completed — 133,000 tonnes. The silage plan has been implemented by 18% — 132,500 tonnes.

      Converted to feed units, 21.6 centners of rough and succulent fodder have already been harvested per head of livestock, which is 88% of the annual plan.

      Earlier it was reported that Nizhny Novgorod farmers sowed more than 1 million hectares for the 2025 crop.
