On August 12 in the city of Grodno, Republic of Belarus, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, met with the chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee, Yuri Karaev. One of the main topics discussed was cooperation between the regions.
"Belarus is our most important economic partner, ranking third in trade turnover after China and India. Western sanctions have made our ties even closer. There is a constant exchange of delegations and business missions. Trade turnover between Nizhny Novgorod Region and Belarus grows every year; over 15 years it has increased many times. The development of our ties with Grodno Region occupies a special place. Congresses of small towns have become true forums of people's diplomacy. Much has already been done together. Legislators have analyzed experience in the areas of territorial support, implementation of participatory budgeting projects, development of housing and communal services, the social sphere, and local self-government bodies. Joint work has been organized in such areas as social protection, environmental protection, support for producers, comprehensive development of rural territories, and strengthening the culture of interethnic communication. Cooperation agreements have been signed between several municipal formations of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the district executive committees of Grodno Region," said Evgeny Lyulin.
"Holding the Congress also produces intangible but no less important results—a sense of unity, a desire to work together and implement joint programs. Such human, fraternal relations help bring economic, social, cultural and educational projects to life. We see a real effect and continue this work. We are interested in making our ties deep and fruitful. Therefore, at the IV Congress of Small Towns we plan to sign a 'Roadmap' on cooperation between the small towns of Nizhny Novgorod and Grodno regions. Another special area of our interaction is youth policy and patriotic education. I am confident that, following the Congress of Small Towns in Mosty, youth parliamentarism in our regions will receive a new impetus for development. It is important that interest in the Congresses of Small Towns is growing not only in Russia but also in Belarus. This shows that our experience will be replicated in other regions of both countries," emphasized the speaker of the regional parliament, Evgeny Lyulin.
"Regional cooperation is the foundation of the good relations that have developed between our countries. This summer, in June, Nizhny Novgorod hosted the XII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. For Nizhny Novgorod and Grodno regions, 2025 is the 20th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Grodno Regional Executive Committee of the Republic of Belarus on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation. Today here, on Grodno soil, we are strengthening and deepening ties between our regions. The exchange of experience in unlocking socio-economic potential and developing small territories is important for improving infrastructure and raising the quality of life there," noted Deputy Chairman of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region Igor Zotov.
