A bill will be introduced to the State Duma that will lower the minimum age for joining political parties to 16. The head of the Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, Yaroslav Nilov, explained his position in a comment to the 360 TV channel.
He said that he himself joined a party at 15 in 1998 and received a party membership card. According to him, until 2001 there were no age restrictions in Russia for joining political parties. Nilov believes that lowering the age threshold will raise legal culture, political literacy and the involvement of young people in the country's political and public life.
The deputy also noted that many political parties already have their own youth organizations. Therefore, the proposed bill will only legally formalize an existing practice.
In addition, Nilov suggested considering lowering the voting age.
