Eighty schoolchildren from 24 Russian regions and the Republic of Belarus have begun training as part of the free information security educational program "NEYMARK IT Academy." They became the first residents of the new dormitories of the NEYMARK IT Campus in Nizhny Novgorod.
Over 10 days of school vacation, students in grades 7–11 will work on real tasks that information security specialists in Russian companies face today. industry practitioners will explain how attacks on digital systems occur and are countered, as well as the basic principles of network vulnerability analysis and cyber defense.
"The kids will live in these buildings for the coming week while they master the practical fundamentals of cyber defense and countering attacks on digital infrastructure. I wish the young 'academics' success in their studies! They will acquire skills that are extremely relevant in the modern world. Cybersecurity specialists are in demand both in the public sector and in Russian businesses of all sizes," said Gleb Nikitin, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
Deputy Chairman of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Ekaterina Solntseva noted that the IT Campus NEYMARK’s educational sessions, which have become traditional, attract schoolchildren from across Russia and from friendly countries.
"This speaks to the high quality of organization and the thorough planning of these intensives, as well as to the fact that the region’s brand as a strong IT center has been established at the nationwide level and is already going international," she emphasized.
"For the NEYMARK IT Campus, training information security specialists and conducting advanced research in this field are key priorities. I am confident that participants in our Academy will not only learn in-demand skills but will also go on to contribute to the development of domestic information protection technologies. Already today they are becoming part of the professional community on which the country’s security depends," said Acting Rector of NEYMARK University Alexey Khabibullin.
Program participants will also practice their skills. A simulation of a real hacker intrusion into the internal network of a hypothetical company will be organized for them. Student teams will have to quickly detect all of its vulnerable elements and develop an optimal defense strategy.
Recall that the NEYMARK IT Campus is an interuniversity educational ecosystem. Located in Nizhny Novgorod, known for its engineering, scientific and IT schools, the campus combines student education and advanced research, focusing on the current needs of Russian business. Five educational programs are currently being implemented, developed jointly with the largest companies in the Russian IT industry: in artificial intelligence and computer vision, artificial and augmented intelligence technologies, microelectronics, information security, and digital technologies in construction. The campus’s research centers and laboratories conduct advanced research in similar areas. The IT Campus also provides retraining for IT specialists, places special emphasis on supporting and developing talented schoolchildren and students, and on improving teachers’ qualifications.
At the request of President Vladimir Putin, a network of modern campuses is being created in Russia. By 2030 the country is to gain a "constellation" of 25 campuses. One of them has already been fully built in Moscow on the basis of Bauman Moscow State Technical University. With the support of the national project "Youth and Children," 24 such student towns are currently being designed and constructed. By 2036 the number of campuses will increase to 40. The campus concepts envisage creating a unique and comprehensive environment for individual and team development with numerous open educational spaces and transformable classrooms. This will help form a common corporate culture among teachers, students and researchers. Project funding comes from federal and regional budgets as well as from extrabudgetary sources. The Government of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia are carrying out work in this area.
Two calls for proposals to create campuses were held, within which 17 projects were selected (8 projects in 2021 and 9 projects in 2022). Eight more projects were designated by separate instructions from President Vladimir Putin. They will be implemented in Zabaykalsky Krai, Kamchatka Krai, Primorsky Krai, Murmansk and Smolensk oblasts, the Republic of Buryatia, and two projects in Moscow based at the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU) and the Moscow State Technological University "STANKIN."
