A woman from Shakhunya was deceived under the pretext of replacing her electricity meter.

      Scammers tried to deceive a resident of Shakhunya who said they were replacing electricity meters for free. The pensioner realized in time that she had been deceived and went to a multifunctional center herself, where she restored access to her account on the State Services portal. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      A 66-year-old woman contacted the Shakhunya police with a statement that unknown persons had gained access to her personal information in her account on the State Services portal. She said that a woman called her in a messenger, introduced herself as an employee of the housing and utilities service and said that under a state program they were doing free replacement of electricity meters. The pensioner agreed to meet this "worker" the next day.

      After agreeing, the caller asked the pensioner to provide two codes that were supposed to arrive in messages, allegedly to protect the meter from outsiders. The trusting woman gave the codes. After some time she received a notification that the password to her personal account on the State Services portal had been changed.

      Realizing that she had been deceived, the woman immediately went to the MFC and restored access to her account. There she was told that the scammers had drawn up a power of attorney in her name and were viewing pension documents. The pensioner has now turned to the police.

      On this incident the investigative department of the Shakhunya police opened a criminal case. For such a crime one can receive up to two years of imprisonment. Police officers are now conducting operational measures to find and detain the suspects.
