      On August 1, the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, took part in the festivities dedicated to the 122nd anniversary of the glorification of Reverend Seraphim of Sarov as a saint.

      The events are held at the St. Trinity Seraphimo-Diveevo Convent in the village of Diveevo.

      “Every time I come to Diveevo, I feel a spiritual uplift,” shared the impressions of the regional parliament chairman. “Early in the morning, I specifically walked around the entire monastery, looked into the tent camp where thousands of pilgrims from all over the country live. Bright faces, prayers on their lips. Everyone has come with their pain and hope to Father Seraphim. Everyone will surely leave home with joy in their hearts!”

      According to Evgeny Lyulin, the residents of Nizhny Novgorod are very lucky: “Visitors call us lucky because Nizhny Novgorod is close enough to Diveevo—just a short drive. Many come here for a week or more. From other regions, even other countries! The most diverse people come to Diveevo. Ordinary citizens, politicians, scientists—all are equal here. It’s hard to describe the reverence and awe with which people meet the relics of Reverend Seraphim of Sarov, when they are traditionally brought out of the Trinity Cathedral for the Divine Liturgy!”

      “The Holy Seraphim of Sarov performed and continues to perform many miracles. I know that “Rosatom” believes that the country’s nuclear shield was created through his prayers. Just imagine: in a war-ravaged country, within four years, catching up with Americans and creating nuclear weapons. Isn’t that a miracle?” stated the chairman of the Legislative Assembly.

      “I remember in 1991, when everything around was collapsing, the relics of Saint Seraphim appeared, and a procession carried them from Leningrad across the country to Diveevo. From that moment, the revival of Orthodoxy and the entire country began. Today, as our nation goes through trials, the prayerful help of Father Seraphim helps Russia endure and grow stronger.”

      According to the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, this year, in just two days, 11,000 pilgrims and visitors arrived in Diveevo. During the Divine Liturgy held outdoors on August 1 in the square in front of the Transfiguration Cathedral of the monastery, 3,500 people participated.
