      July 26 is Trade Worker’s Day. On the eve of this professional holiday, Nizhny Novgorodstat calculated how many residents of Nizhny Novgorod are employed in this sector.

      Thus, over 173,000 people in the Nizhny Novgorod region work in retail and wholesale trade.

      As of the end of 2023, trade was the second-largest contributor to the region's GDP, accounting for 16.4% of the GRP. The processing industries held first place.

      By the end of 2024, there were 18,400 economic entities engaged in trade in the region:

      - 66.4% specialized in wholesale trade;

      - 19.8% in retail;

      - 13.9% in the sale and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

      

      Additionally, the region registered 31,200 individual entrepreneurs engaged in trading activities.

      As of the end of 2024, there were 16,000 stores, 1,400 hypermarkets and supermarkets, 5,000 minimarkets, 3,200 kiosks, pavilions, and stalls, as well as 1,800 pharmacies, drugstores, kiosks, and points.

      It was previously reported that 75% of employed residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region regularly face emotional burnout and workplace stress.
