Society A coordination headquarters has been established at the Russian Ministry of Transport to oversee recovery efforts at the Gorodetsky hydropower plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the department.
Navigation on the Volga in this area is temporarily suspended. The timing of its resumption will be determined after the completion of a series of engineering and research activities.
The necessary equipment is already on site. Seventeen dump trucks, a barge with a tugboat, a crane, and excavators equipped with hydraulic hammers are involved in the work. These machines will be used to dismantle the damaged structure, which currently obstructs vessel passage.
Simultaneously, an inspection of the damaged section is underway. It is known that the width of the lock is about 30 meters, and part of the broken headwall extends approximately 2 meters above the water surface. This part of the structure will be dismantled first.
On July 23, a diving team will also join the inspection of the facility. Specialists will examine the underwater part of the structure, and the results of their work will determine when Rosmorregflot can issue an order to resume navigation.
The department notes that the situation is under constant control.
It is also recalled that the prosecutor’s office has taken control of cruise companies following the accident at the Gorodetsky hydropower plant.
