Nizhny Novgorod Water Utility responded to reports of an unpleasant odor appearing in various districts of Nizhny Novgorod and is investigating the causes of the incident.

Preliminary data suggest that sewage containing banned substances, discharged by enterprises from the Borsky district, could have been the source of pollution.

According to information, on July 11 and 12, specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod Water Utility recorded deviations in water quality indicators. Samples have now been collected for analysis to determine the composition of substances in the wastewater. It is planned to intensify air pollution control by increasing the frequency of monitoring permissible concentration levels (MCLs).

As reported by the regional government, the regional Ministry of Ecology is ready to involve the mobile laboratory of the State Budgetary Institution "Regional Ecology" for additional research.

The Borsky District administration is also conducting an internal review of enterprises discharging wastewater and is developing a plan for laboratory analyses.

An interagency working group has already been created to address the problem promptly. Its main task is to identify the causes of the unpleasant odor and determine the sources of pollution. All necessary measures will be taken afterward to eliminate the problem and prevent similar situations in the future. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
