Moose are coming onto the roads: Nizhny Novgorod residents have been warned about the danger of traffic accidents.

      September 3, 2026 11:19 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, there have been 144 traffic accidents involving wild animals since the beginning of the year. In the same period last year, 133 such accidents were recorded, according to the regional Ministry of Forestry. The agency warned motorists about the increased risk of collisions with moose. From the end of August to the beginning of October, these animals are in their mating season, during which their migratory and mating activity increases. Because of this, moose may more frequently come onto the roads. Drivers are advised to be especially cautious in the evening and at night when the likelihood of encountering animals is highest. Due to the large size of moose, a collision with one can pose serious danger to the driver and passengers. Most often, traffic accidents involving wild animals occur on rural roads near forested areas. Visibility may be limited in such areas, and vehicles usually travel at high speeds.
