In the Buturlin district, police have detained a rural hunter suspected of cruel treatment of an animal.

      A report was received at the duty unit of the police department (located in the working settlement of Buturlino) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Knyagininsky" via the communication channel "112" from a resident of the village of Smagina. The applicant reported that an unknown person shot his dog with a gun on the street in the presence of minor children. The investigative-operational group sent to the scene identified the suspect. A 61-year-old local hunter was detained by criminal investigation officers. The man stated that while at home, he heard noise in the yard. When he went outside, he saw that two dogs belonging to his neighbor were attacking his rooster. This incident was not the first, as the man had previously had complaints against the owner of the animals due to the systematic death of his poultry. Taking his gun and ammunition from home, the perpetrator tracked the dogs. In the presence of two minor boys nearby, he loaded a round into the weapon and shot one of the dogs, hitting it in the neck. The mortally wounded animal ran into a thicket of bushes, where it died from its injuries. After that, the man left the scene. During a search of the citizen's residence, police officers seized 4 units of officially registered firearms and ammunition. An investigator from the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia "Knyagininsky" initiated a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 2 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruelty to animals). The maximum penalty under this article provides for imprisonment for up to 5 years. The suspect fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. A preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior was chosen against him.
