New street lighting has been installed at the Avtozavod in response to a request from the All-Russian Society of the Blind.
August 25, 2026 17:06 Society In the Avtozavodsky district of Nizhny Novgorod, work has been completed on the installation of outdoor lighting networks along the pedestrian sidewalk near the enterprise for the visually impaired, NPO "Avtopromagregat." The project was initiated by members of the All-Russian Society of the Blind and implemented with the support of Vladimir Pichugin, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region. "Residents of the Avtozavodsky district, including members of the Union of the Blind, have been asking for five years to restore outdoor lighting on this road. We installed six new poles and additionally mounted lights on the already existing ones. Now people can move safely at night," commented the deputy. The work was carried out as part of the initiative of the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, to direct part of the territorial development funds to solve socially significant problems of residents. The cost of the work amounted to 1.2 million rubles. "The area was dark and dangerous, especially for people with limited mobility—visually impaired individuals and other categories. People were afraid to pass here. Now there is lighting, it has become much brighter and calmer. Now it is safe to move at any time of the day," said Pyotr Varankin, chairman of the local branch of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. The installation of street lights has improved safety for all residents of the microdistrict who regularly pass through this route. "Here we have a bus stop, many work and live in other areas, so lighting is very important, especially for people with weak eyesight. There are many children here: nearby is a lake, a beach, and also a railway. Safety in this area is very important," noted local resident Lyudmila Klish. In addition, landscaping has been carried out in the MZhK quarter of the Avtozavodsky district. A total of 17 poles, 17 lights, and 6 torches have been installed at both sites. "We received two requests from residents. The first was to restore the sidewalk near the 'Avtopromagregat' plant, which people with disabilities, including members of the society of the blind, use to return home. We repaired the asphalt and then installed lighting here. The second site is the MZhK quarter. There are a school, a sports school, playgrounds, and a football field, as well as a sidewalk that connects Gaidar and Sadovaya streets. There was no lighting there at all before. Now children and adults can move safely at night," said Alexander Nagin, head of the Avtozavodsky district administration, deputy head of the Nizhny Novgorod administration, and secretary of the local branch of "United Russia." It is worth noting that the "Urban Environment" and "Safe Roads" projects are part of the People's Program and address interrelated tasks. The first is aimed at improving public spaces, while the second focuses on enhancing road safety and pedestrian zones. Together, they provide a comprehensive approach to urban environment development, where comfort and safety become an integral part of people's daily lives.
