Since the beginning of 2026, 416 cases of HIV infection have been identified in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the channel "Bokal-pressika" in the messenger "MAX" citing the regional center for the fight against AIDS and infectious diseases.

According to the medical institution, over the past six months, more than 797 thousand examinations have been conducted. Unfortunately, 416 tests turned out to be positive.

       – Over the year, the HIV incidence rate in the region decreased from 14.8 to 11.4 per 100 thousand population, – the message states. Specialists attribute this to the implementation of various prevention formats. Regular discussions on HIV and how to protect oneself are held with students, conscripts, and future parents. Citizens have also started to get tested more frequently. The center provided several statistical indicators – the youngest patient with a positive HIV status is only 21 years old, while the oldest is 50. Most often, this infection affects working men, with an average age of 42. HIV is predominantly transmitted sexually – this accounts for 81.3% of infections from the total number.
