Ayrat Akhmetshin has been appointed the chief federal inspector for Tatarstan.

      On August 13, 2026, at 17:54, Politics Former head of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, Airat Akhmetshin, has taken the position of chief federal inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan. Today, he was introduced in his new role by the Presidential Envoy of Russia in the Volga Federal District, Igor Komarov, as reported by the government of Tatarstan.

      Recall that Akhmetshin led the Nizhny Novgorod department of the Investigative Committee since 2019. He left this position last week.

      His work in investigative bodies began in 1995 as a justice lieutenant general. In 2010, Akhmetshin became the deputy head of the Investigative Committee for Tatarstan.

      In 2017, he headed the investigative department in the Kirov region, and two years later, he moved to a similar position in the Nizhny Novgorod region. In December 2024, his powers were extended for another five years.

      In his new position, Akhmetshin named among his priorities the protection of the constitutional rights of participants in the special military operation and their families, the execution of decrees by the President of the Russian Federation, and the implementation of national projects.
