      In the run-up to the new school year, schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region are being checked for their readiness to ensure the safety of children. The acceptance of educational organizations will be completed by August 15, and on August 18, all schools in the region will conduct nationwide exercises on anti-terrorist security. This was reported by Maria Chernikova, Deputy Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."

      According to her, before the start of the school year, all educational organizations must undergo an inspection by an interdepartmental commission. It includes specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, and the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing.

      In particular, specialists check the functionality of alarm buttons and notification systems, the condition of fences, the operability of video surveillance, turnstiles, and other access control measures. In addition, the commission pays attention to the availability and relevance of anti-terrorism security passports.

      "If a school has even one remark regarding safety, the readiness act will not be signed, and it simply will not receive permission to open its doors for children on September 1," emphasized Chernikova.

      In the daily operations of schools, according to the deputy minister, a multi-level protection system is in place. All educational institutions are equipped with stationary security posts, where licensed employees of private security companies work around the clock. Attention is also paid to perimeter protection: fencing, lighting of the territory at night, and video surveillance cameras.

      A separate access control system has been organized. Parents of younger students can enter the school based on preliminary lists or accompanied by an employee of the educational organization.

      At the same time, inspections are not limited to the acceptance period for schools in August. The relevant services of the regional Ministry of Education conduct unscheduled inspections throughout the year without prior notice.

      "We can arrive at any school without warning on any day to check the vigilance of security, the closure of emergency exits, and the actions of staff," the deputy minister said.

      In addition, educational organizations interact with law enforcement agencies, with which a constant exchange of information about potential threats has been established.

      Another large-scale inspection of schools' readiness for emergency situations will take place on August 18. Nationwide anti-terrorist security exercises will be held in all schools in the Nizhny Novgorod region. During the drills, it is planned to check the evacuation of students within the regulatory time, practice blocking entrances to buildings, and coordinate the actions of administrations with rapid response groups from the National Guard, as well as provide first aid to simulated victims.

      "This is not just a formal roll call over the radio. This is a full-fledged training," noted Chernikova.

      According to the deputy minister, ensuring safety remains a priority direction in preparing educational organizations for the new school year.

      "The safety of our children is an area where we must foresee everything," she concluded.
