A Canadian farmer in the Nizhny Novgorod region spoke about the problems with obtaining a residence permit.
Canadian farmer Arend Feinstra, who moved with his family to the Nizhny Novgorod region two years ago, is still unable to obtain permanent residency in Russia. He shared this in his vlog Countryside Acres. According to Feinstra, the family is satisfied with life in Russia, but the immigration issue remains unresolved. Currently, the Canadians have temporary residency and cannot transition to permanent status. "Our path to emigration is still not entirely clear, and right now we have no opportunity to obtain permanent residency. We are stuck with temporary status, so we need to keep thinking about this issue," the farmer said.
Due to financial costs, the family also had to adjust their plans for developing the farm. In particular, Feinstra wanted to build a large pig pen but has postponed the project for now. According to him, the family has already invested significant funds into the farm and is currently not ready to increase expenses. Another challenge for the farmer has been the issue of military service. As Feinstra explained, to further process the documents, he needs to sign a military contract. However, he is not ready to leave his family and farm for a year.
The Canadians hope that next year they will be able to continue investing in the farm and that the situation with legalization in Russia will become clearer. Earlier, the website pravda-nn.ru reported that the Feinstra family from the Nizhny Novgorod region visited farmers in Crimea.
