The 70th anniversary of the construction industry holiday is celebrated in Nizhny Novgorod and across Russia.

August 7, 2026 13:06 Society Every year on the second Sunday of August, Russia honors builders. This year is a jubilee: the Builder's Day is 70 years old. The national project "Infrastructure for Life," created by the decision of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in 2025 to achieve the national goal of "Comfortable and Safe Living Environment," is responsible for the development of the construction industry and the creation of a comfortable urban environment in our country. The national project has changed the approach to the country's urban planning policy. Instead of "Khrushchyovka" developments and multi-story standard quarters, unique architectural projects have begun to emerge, and residential and non-residential complexes are becoming winners of various prestigious international architectural awards. Nizhny Novgorod and other Russian cities have developed their individual style. "The construction complex of Russia is one of the main drivers of growth for the domestic economy and an important factor in improving people's lives. Despite external pressure, the industry is actively developing. Last year was the first year of implementing the new national project 'Infrastructure for Life.' And thanks to the attention of the President and the support from the Chairman of the Government, all tasks planned for the year were completed. The maximum annual volume of residential and non-residential real estate commissioning in history was achieved—almost 150 million square meters. Work continues. Special thanks to those who are working today in difficult conditions in the reunited regions. I wish all Russian builders further success in implementing their planned projects and interesting initiatives!" said Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Marat Khusnullin. In Nizhny Novgorod, a solemn event was held in honor of Builder's Day: for high achievements in the industry, the best of the best received awards from the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the regional Legislative Assembly. On behalf of federal and regional authorities, the Senator of the Russian Federation from the Nizhny Novgorod region Olga Shchetinina congratulated builders on their professional holiday, presenting honorary titles "Honored Builder of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" and "Honored Architect of the Nizhny Novgorod Region," along with Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Sergey Morozov. "Dear colleagues, on behalf of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and personally, I congratulate you on Builder's Day. This holiday is not about concrete and metal; it is about creation, about people, about us. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than 66 thousand people work in the construction industry—this is a large cohesive team of professionals who are changing the world around them, our region, and putting their hearts into the development of our country. We are all united by the desire to create. The transformation of Nizhny Novgorod and each district of the Nizhny Novgorod region is the builders' merit. I wish you strength of spirit, endless energy, inspiration, and teamwork," emphasized Sergey Morozov. From the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the chairman of the committee on urban development, property, and land relations Vasily Sukhanov addressed the participants of the event. "Today, the construction complex of the region faces large-scale tasks for the construction of housing, social facilities, and infrastructure modernization. In the context of implementing national projects and with the support of the governor, we see how our cities are transforming. It is gratifying that true professionals, ready to work for the benefit of the region, have gathered in the hall. It is important that our joint efforts continue to be directed towards creating a modern and cozy living space for the residents of Nizhny Novgorod," noted Vasily Sukhanov. Thanks to the professionalism of builders, over 2.2 million square meters of housing have been put into operation in the Nizhny Novgorod region in just one and a half years of implementing the national project "Infrastructure for Life." In total, during the operation of national projects in the region, more than 13 million square meters of modern comfortable housing have been built. "A professional holiday is another reason to say thank you to those who turn drawings and ideas into reality every day. You do not just build walls—you assemble the framework on which our everyday life stands. In this jubilee year, I wish you not just prosperity but a living fire in your eyes, pride in every completed project, and warm words from those for whom you work," addressed the president of the Nizhny Novgorod Builders Union Mikhail Ivanov to his colleagues. The national project "Infrastructure for Life" includes a set of systemic measures that form a new quality of housing, transport, social, and communal infrastructure. The national project consists of 12 federal projects, five of which are aimed at developing infrastructure in populated areas and increasing the housing stock, including through the development of the individual housing market.
